The Nordic Council will put focus on IP at the seminar “The Future of Intellectual Property in the Nordic Region – How Do We Create the Right Conditions?”
The Nordic Council is the official body for cooperation among the Nordic parliaments. The Council consist of 87 MPs elected by the eight Nordic parliaments. This seminar, organized by the Nordic Council’s Committee for Knowledge and Culture, provides an opportunity to engage not only Swedish but also Nordic politicians on the importance of intellectual property rights and the negative consequences of IP infringements.
The Network for a Modern IP Law, coordinated by the Rights Alliance, will present the 2026 report, Intellectual Property, Jobs & Prosperity in the Nordic Region, at the Nordic Council. The report is written by the researcher Nima Sanandaji and estimates the value contributed by IP-intensive industries to society, as well as the damages from counterfeits and piracy in the form of outcrowded jobs, lost tax revenue, and lost value creation.
At the seminar, rightsholders from different Nordic countries and sectors will discuss how they value IP and how they are affected by infringements in their rights. The seminar will take place in Oslo on April 16th, and among others, Norway’s Minister of Culture will participate.
