Piracy and counterfeits cause 71 000 lost jobs in Sweden

The report “Intellectual Property, Jobs and Prosperity in the Nordic region 2022” shows that piracy and counterfeit carried out by Swedish households result in SEK 17 billion in tax revenue and 71,000 jobs being lost. The report has been produced by Nima Sanandaji, doctor of technology and author of the report, in collaboration with the Network for a modern IP legislation, that is coordinated by RA. The report was published at a seminar in the parliament on 26 January.

– Many households in Sweden stream illegal television, buy pirated products, or download computer games illegally. It may sound like a harmless crime, but what they may not think about is that the money goes straight to organized crime, says Sara Lindbäck, the Rights Alliance.

The report was presented in a debate article in Expressen, that was picked up by the editorial in Dagens Nyheter.
