On January 23, there is a trial against the man suspected of being behind the illegal service Smart IPTV. The police investigation was initiated following a report by the Rights Alliance in 2019 and has been carried out by the police’s intellectual property group. This group consists of experienced investigators specialized in copyright infringement and other intellectual property crimes. Special intellectual property prosecutors from the “National Unit for International and Organized Crime” lead investigations regarding IP crimes.
The police investigation against Smart IPTV contain much evidence. Among other things, pictures and emails show the suspect’s involvement in Smart IPTV and that he handled cryptocurrencies. Payment for Smart IPTV could only be made via Bitcoins, just like many other illegal services. Cryptocurrencies are attractive to many criminals because they are harder to trace but easier to launder and use on the black market.
