After the election in September, Sweden got a new government and thus also a new prime minister. In the government statement, Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson (M) emphasized that one of the focus areas during Sweden’s presidency of the EU, which starts on January 1, 2023, will be to strengthen the EU’s internal digital market.
The EU’s internal digital market aims to ensure that the freedoms within the EU also become digital. This is achieved through common rules for, among other things, telecommunications services, data protection and copyright.
This is positive news for the copyright area, and there is hope that the next government will work actively to improve the protection of the industries that depend on copyright and ensure that they can better contribute to the economic growth in Sweden going forward. The implementation of the Digital Services Act can become an important cornerstone in this work.
