Piracy is a big problem for the film and TV industry in Sweden. According to new report from Mediavision, piracy services have increased for the third year in a row. The problem is particularly widespread in younger age groups.
The new figures show that nearly 2.2 million Swedes (28 per cent of the population between the ages of 15 and 74) have used a piracy service in the last month, an increase of 8 per cent from last year. In the 15-24 age group, 60 per cent say that they used illegal services in the last month.
As many as 580,000 households say they subscribe to illegal IPTV services, an alarming 19 per cent increase from last year.
-It is very worrying that piracy continues to grow. Change is needed. The illegal ecosystem depends on legal actors for its existence, eg search engines, payment providers, ISPs, hosting services, etc. We all need to work together to stop organized crime, says Sara Lindbäck, a lawyer at the Rights Alliance.
